PM stresses result-oriented use of public funds in development projects
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, Monday, emphasized that public money should be invested in such development projects which ensured tangible results.
The prime minister chaired a meeting to review the ongoing year’s development budget and proposed projects under the upcoming Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) for the next fiscal year, PM Office Media Wing said in a press release.
During the meeting, the prime minister said that ministries demonstrating better performance would be given priority in the allocation of funds for development projects.
He said that water reservoirs and hydropower projects were among the government’s top priorities in development spending and stressed that water reservoirs enhancement projects would be accorded high priority.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, along with federal ministers Ahsan Iqbal, Ahad Khan Cheema, Muhammad Aurangzeb, Rana Tanveer Hussain, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Hanif Abbasi, Sardar Awais Leghari, Mian Mohammad Moeen Watto, Abdul Aleem Khan, Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Minister of State Bilal Azhar Kayani, Special Assistant Haroon Akhtar Khan, and other senior officials.
The prime minister also appreciated Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb for the successful launch of Panda Bonds and their positive reception in the market.
During the briefing, the prime minister praised the performance of the ministries of railways, information technology and power.
He also directed authorities to encourage public-private partnerships in the development projects.
The meeting was informed about the progress made on the current PSDP and was briefed on proposed development schemes and required funding for the next fiscal year.
The relevant officials also presented updates on major national water storage and hydropower projects, including Dasu Dam, Diamer-Bhasha Dam and Mohmand Dam.

Naqvi praises security forces after 8 militants killed in D.I. Khan operation
ISLAMABAD: Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Sunday paid tribute to the security forces for carrying out a successful operation against militants in Dera Ismail Khan, where eight Khawarij were killed.
The minister praised the professionalism of the security personnel and commended their role in thwarting the plans of terrorists.
In a statement, Mohsin Naqvi said the successful operation reflected the commitment and capability of the security forces in tackling terrorism. He appreciated the efforts of the personnel involved and acknowledged their contribution to protecting national security.
The interior minister said Khyber Pakhtunkhwa remains on the frontline in the fight against terrorism and noted that the security forces are determined to eliminate the threat of terrorism. He said their continued operations demonstrate a firm resolve to safeguard the country and its people.
Mohsin Naqvi said he was proud of the brave personnel who foiled the designs of terrorists and carried out the operation successfully. He added that the actions of the security forces are a reflection of their commitment to defending national security and maintaining peace.
The minister reiterated that the nation stands shoulder to shoulder with the security forces in the war against terrorism. He said the sacrifices and efforts of the forces are valued and supported by the people of Pakistan.
The interior minister concluded by reaffirming national support for the security forces and their ongoing efforts against terrorism.

ISLAMABAD: Defence Minister Khawaja Asif on Sunday said the leadership of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has been facilitating terrorism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which has resulted in the rising challenges of security in the province.
In his statement on a social media platform, he said the nation would hold the KP government accountable for the martyrdom of several civilians and military personnel in the wake of terrorist activities in the province.

LAHORE: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday called on Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi at his residence to offer condolences on the death of his maternal uncle, Akmal Hussain Naqvi.
The prime minister expressed grief over the loss, offered Fatiha for the departed soul and prayed for the elevation of his ranks in the hereafter.
During the meeting, the interior minister also gave the prime minister a detailed briefing on the important talks held last night and the progress made so far.
